First Aid at Work

Goody Training Solutions provides HSENI-approved First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work Refresher courses. These courses cover a range of topics:

The courses introduce topics in a logical sequence using a range of presentational methods including PowerPoint, DVD and numerous practical sessions and “desktop exercises” aimed at helping each candidate, no matter what their individual learning style, assimilate the required knowledge and skills while gaining the confidence to use what they learn. Each exercise scenario is tailored to apply to the workplaces of the candidates attending the course.

First Aid at Work training is normally delivered over four days, with the course assessment taking place on the second half of day four. These four days can be delivered on a schedule that suits the customer’s requirements, as long as each candidate completes the training within thirteen weeks. However, we recommend one of the following formats:

(While it is legal to complete this course within a thirteen week timeframe, experience shows that the more spread out these courses are the more difficulties candidates experience in terms of continuity, practice and revision.)

The First Aid at Work Refresher course is delivered over two days.

Please note that, if required, any of our training courses can be delivered at weekends.

Emergency First Aid / “Appointed Person”

This is a one day (six hour) Appointed Person course, covering the following topics:

AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Course

Current survival rates for people who have suffered cardiac arrest in the UK are 6%. Studies show that the use of an automated external defibrillator increases chances of survival to 38%. As a result, more and more organisations are including AEDs as part of their first aid provision.

This is a three hour course designed for candidates who have completed at least Appointed Persons training. The course covers the following:

Candidates will be assessed on their competence in CPR and in resuscitation procedures using an AED and, if competent, will be awarded certification.

Paediatric First Aid

This 2 day (12 hour) course has been designed to meet the needs of early years workers who are caring for babies and children up to school-age, and for primary school staff.

The course meets the criteria laid down in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) published by Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), which became law in mainland Great Britain in 2008. (This legislation does not currently apply in Northern Ireland, but it is a useful standard for training and practice.)

Topics covered by the course are:

To allow flexibility in delivery to meet customer requirements, the course programme is split into six 90-minute sessions and a final 180-minute session which includes a practical and a written assessment.

We can also deliver a one-day (six-hour) certificated course in Emergency Paediatric First Aid. As with the full Paediatric course, this training can be delivered on a timetable to suit you.

Basic life Support for Medical and Dental Surgery Staff

This is a 3-hour session aimed at updating skills in CPR and the use of emergency equipment available at your premises. The course will also cover any topics (such as the recognition of, and first aid procedures for, anaphylaxis) requested by surgery staff.
