Training in stress management, time management, personal safety for lone workers, managing aggression and other topics.

Goody Training Solutions offers a variety of other training for personal and professional development, including personal safety and stress management.

Goody Training Solutions provides the following training in the following general topics:

Stress Management for the Individual

Time Management

Managing Aggression/Personal Safety for Lone Workers

Stress Management for the Individual

The Health and Safety Executive defines work related stress as: “The adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed on them at work.” It goes on to say that stress is not an illness – it is a state. However, if stress is excessive and prolonged then it may lead to mental and physical illness.

This course is designed to help employers meet the needs of individual staff who feel that they are subject to stress in the course of their work. The aims of the course are to enable participants to:

Recognise the effects of stress and develop techniques to reduce them.

Deal with two specific stressors known to be especially important to staff in work situations – time management and problems with assertiveness.

The training is based on the participants’ recognition of the effects stress has upon them and how their own personality adds to these effects, and on helping them to devise techniques to cope with stress. The course falls into the following parts:

Highlighting the effects of stress; many people severely affected by stress are aware of physical, emotional and behavioural changes in their lives, but are under misapprehension that they are alone — that no-one else feels the way they do

Examining factors inducing stress (stressors) in general life and those stressors arising from the work situation

Helping participants identify their own level of ability to cope with stress and what they can do to improve it

Helping participants develop techniques to deal with common major stressors:

Time management

Assertiveness

TIme Management

This half-day time management course will help participants gain knowledge of their personal tendencies in managing their time, and will equip them with a range of tools to help them prioritise their workload and manage their time more effectively to meet both personal and organisational goals.

Managing Aggression/Personal Safety for Lone Workers

This one-day course has been designed for people who may find themselves in confrontational situations in the course of their work. Staff it is appropriate for include doctors’ surgery staff, customer service staff, agency workers or anyone in a public-facing role.

The course covers the following:

Assessing risk

Basic personal safety precautions for out of office and public locations

In-office precautions

The impact of participants’ personality on the possible outcomes of a confrontational situation

The COCO principle (maintaining a calm air, conscious observation of what’s going on around them, communication skills and organisational awareness), to reduce the chance of a confrontational situation developing

Factors contributing to a confrontational situation

Early recognition of anger and aggression

Defusing techniques based on the CRaM model (calm, relate and manage)

Dealing with situations which become violent, including disengagement techniques and the proper use of personal alarms

These topics are covered in line with Health & Safety Executive guidelines and are taught in simple, straightforward terms to give participants the skills to reduce the chances of, and possible consequences of, aggression aimed towards them.

Participants are helped to examine their own natural negotiation styles and are trained in communication skills which will enable them to assert their point of view — without necessarily causing the other person to lose face.

Training in Health and Safety, including risk assessment, moving and handling/manual handling, food hygiene and COSHH.

Health and safety covers a range of subjects which are relevant to different industries. The training we offer to equips participants to ensure the safety of their work environment, and is designed to be flexible to address the specific needs of client organisations while meeting all statutory obligations.

Goody Training Solutions provides the following Health and Safety training:

Introduction to Health & Safety

Risk Assessment

Moving and Handling

Food Hygiene

COSHH (Control of Substances Harmful to Health)

Introduction to Health & Safety
Risk Assessment

Introduction to Health & Safety and Risk Assessment are half-day courses aimed at SMEs, enabling them to comply with current legislation. Both courses include exercises which allow participants to experience the complexities of fulfilling their obligations before applying their learning in their own organisations.

Moving and Handling

Ask most people who have attended a Moving and Handling Course what it was about and if they learned anything useful, and the most common answers are that they were taught how to lift cardboard boxes and that they didn’t learn much!

At Goody Training Solutions, we comply with Health and Safety Executive guidelines covering the topics that must be included in a Moving and Handling course, but seek to add both relevance to the candidates and value for their organization. Rather than an “off the peg” session, we consult with the customer organisation as to the actual duties of the candidates and the appropriate Health and safety policies in force. We aim to show the participants how they can put the information they get on the course to proper use to think through what they must do to avoid fatigue and injury.

Topics covered:

Health & Safety legislation

How the back functions

Mechanisms of injury

Upper limb disorders

Safe manual handling techniques and avoiding injury

Risk assessment

Food Hygiene

We offer a one-day CIEH-approved level 2 Food Hygiene course leading, to CIEH certification which is required by most local and national government agencies for anyone involved in the preparation, cooking and handling of food.

Subjects covered include:

Legislation

Food safety and hygiene hazards

Temperature control

Refrigeration, chilling and cold holding

Cooking, hot holding and reheating

Food handling

Principles of safe food storage

Cleaning

Food premises and equipment

COSHH

Under COSHH (Control Of Substances Harmful to Health Regulations 2002), employers have a duty to protect all employees and members of the public who may be exposed to hazardous substances.

This half-day course equips employees to:

Understand the responsibilities placed upon them and their employer by COSHH and by other Health & Safety legislation

Recognise hazardous substances as defined under the legislation and be aware of the hazards these substances pose

Make use of the labelling and information contained on data sheets supplied with substances under the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2002 (CHIP) as part of risk assessment and implementation of control measures

Each exercise scenario is tailored to apply to the workplaces of the candidates attending the course.

First Aid at Work training is normally delivered over four days, with the course assessment taking place on the second half of day four. These four days can be delivered on a schedule that suits the customer’s requirements, as long as each candidate completes the training within thirteen weeks. However, we recommend one of the following formats:

Four consecutive days.

Two sets of two days.

Four individual days spread over a maximum of four weeks.

(While it is legal to complete this course within a thirteen week timeframe, experience shows that the more spread out these courses are the more difficulties candidates experience in terms of continuity, practice and revision.)

The First Aid at Work Refresher course is delivered over two days.

Please note that, if required, any of our training courses can be delivered at weekends.
